Today

It's the perfect temperature today. As if I'm caught in a moment where nothing is changing. As if time isn't moving around me.

My few tomatoes continue to ripen - slowly - on the vine. Bryan continues to - slowly - work on his roof. What he is doing exactly is difficult to say, but there is constant activity and noise from that direction.

Blue is off making the rounds. Exploring the cemetery, visiting the neighbors, snoozing on someone else's    back porch?

Two cream-colored butterflies explore the overgrown butterfly bush. One landing on the no longer blooming bristle of old flowers, while the other hovers around. Is this a mating ritual? Or is the one hearing the activity of Some Are by The Low Symphony that is softly playing on my bluetooth speaker? They fly around each other a bit, then leave my yard.

It's a holiday, so there is little movement in the neighborhood. A pause before the dimness descends and we all huddle in our homes. Today is the official first day of Fall, and I feel the coming tension. Enjoy the day, and the few weeks we'll have with sunny-enough weather, but start thinking about those sweaters, and raincoats, and the damp darkness.

Today we have the perfect temperature, as if nothing is changing, time isn't moving. Embrace the stillness.
